Pick Your Own Apples

Farm Activities in Bucks County

The Inn at Barley Sheaf Farm offers our guests a peaceful getaway among acres of gently rolling farmland and the opportunity for apple picking in Bucks County, PA. We also have several farms for neighbors in Doylestown and New Hope, many of which are open for pick-your-own produce during their crops’ harvest seasons! There’s no better way to explore the grounds of a working farm and this solo or family outing will leave you with plenty of delicious “fruits of labor” to savor.

Literally dozens of farms can be found across Bucks County, although we will discuss only a couple for the purposes of this page. Solebury Orchards and Shadybrook Farm are both very close to our inn, being located in New Hope and Yardley, respectively – less than 10 minutes by car. Both farms invite visitors to pick apples, blueberries and other fruits (Solebury also has cherries and blackberries; Shadybrook has peaches and pumpkins). Generally speaking, the seasons to pick these fruits run from July through November, although it’s best to call ahead for specific info.

No matter when you go, bringing a camera and wear sunscreen plus a large hat for sun protection. Older shoes and clothes that can get dirty also go well with picking and other activities, like a farm tour. After you’ve collected your pickings, most farms will have you pay by the pound before you go.
